FR-A
FR-A Dry Zone is suitable for internal use in curtain walling, precast concrete façade, composite cladding, and building interior applications where there is low exposure to moisture.
Note - it is not suitable for external use where there is exposure to moisture or weathering e.g. ventilated cladding (rainscreen) and external masonry wall applications. Siderise FR-X Fire Rated Wet Zone Sealant should be used instead.
FR-A Dry Zone is primarily intended for use with recommended Siderise firestop and cavity barrier products installed in accordance with Siderise installation guidance. Its function is to treat small gaps and imperfections where it is otherwise not possible. This includes the following scenarios:
- Sealing imperfections at the slab edge e.g. old or poorly cast concrete floor slabs with an uneven and rough surface that create small gaps. If gaps are greater than 6mm, they should instead be packed with stone wool.
- Sealing around façade brackets or penetrations.
- Sealing joints to fire stops / cavity carriers where it is not possible to apply foil tape.
When considering any of these scenarios, email technical.services@siderise.com for advice relevant to the specific application in question.
Benefits
- ETA-23/0161 and UL-EU-01275-EN third-party certification.
- Fire rated in both horizontal and vertical joints.
- Remains flexible for joint movement.
- Slump resistant and ideal for small joints.
- Excellent adhesion to timber, steel and aluminium substrates.
- No priming required for most construction substrates.
- Fast cure and tack free within 75 minutes (fire performance specification derived from when the sealant has been left to cure for a month).
- 24 month shelf life when stored correctly - see Table 1 ‘Storage’.
Application instructions
Remember – FR-A Dry Zone is only suitable for internal use in applications where there is low exposure to moisture. For external use in applications where there is exposure to moisture or weathering, use Siderise FR-X Fire Rated Wet Zone Sealant.
- Before applying FR-A Dry Zone, ensure all surfaces are clean, free from dust, dirt and grease, and use mechanical abrasion to clean porous surfaces and remove loose material. Surfaces can be damp, but not running wet.
- Where FR-A Dry Zone is to be applied to surfaces that cannot tolerate direct contact, appropriate surface preparation should be made.
- After preparing joints by cleaning as described above, cut the nozzle to the desired angle and gun firmly into the joint to give a good solid fill, filling the gap with FR-A Dry Zone to the required depth.
- Apply FR-A Dry Zone generously to prevent air bubbles.
- Finish the bead with a moist spatula, pallet knife or brush.
- FR-A Dry Zone can be over-painted with most emulsion or alkyd (gloss) paints.
Siderise FR-A Fire Rated Dry Zone Sealant is a one-part, fire resistant, gun-grade acrylic-based joint sealant. It provides a firm, yet flexible, seal for joints in a variety of fire rated structures. When exposed to fire, FR-A Dry Zone intumesces to prevent the spread of smoke and fire through the joint for periods up to 4 hours.
FR-A Dry Zone can be used with a suitable filling material i.e. stone wool backing material, to secure the correct the width to depth ratio, and to reduce sealant shrinkage during curing. Third-party certification includes minimum depth and maximum width of the joints.
Refer to ETA-23/0161 (linear joints and gap seals) and UL-EU-01275-EN (linear joints, gap seals and penetration seals) for fire resistance performance.
FR-A Dry Zone has a D-s1, d1 reaction to fire classification to EN 13501-1 and is detailed in ETA-23/0161.
Table 1: Technical specification
Properties | Value |
---|---|
Form supplied | Ready to apply acrylic-based filler. |
Specific gravity | 1.58–1.64. |
Flash point | None. |
Reaction to fire | D-s1, d1. |
Air permeability | See UL-EU for details. |
Expansion in fire | 1: 2-3. |
Tack free time | Maximum 75 minutes. |
Film forming | Maximum 25 minutes. |
Totally hardened | 3-5 days depending on thickness and atmosphere. |
Flexibility | 12.5% in mortar / concrete / masonry to EN ISO 9046. |
Durability | Type Z2 intended for use in internal conditions with humidity classes other than Z1, excluding temperatures below 0°C. |
Storage temperature | 10°C to 30°C. |
Shelf life | 24 months from date of manufacture for unopened cartridges. |
Assumed working life | 30 years. |
Service temperature | -20 to +70°C. |
Application temperature | +5 to +30°C - in hotter environments, higher temperatures can cause the product to skin / cure faster (allowing less time to manipulate it). Humid conditions may slow the cure time. |
Compatibility | Suitable for use with most materials but should not be used in direct contact with bituminous materials. |
Limitations | Should not be used in permanently damp areas or in joints with high levels of movement. In areas constantly exposed to damp or prevalent rainfall, FR-X Wet Zone should be used. |
Standard colour | Standard white. |
Colour codes | White RAL 9002 / NCS S1002-Y. |
Packaging | 310ml cartridges. |
Health and safety
Skin contact – gently wash with plenty of soap and water. Z2
Eye contact – rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.
If discomfort persists - seek medical advice.
See the Safety Datasheet for further information.
Environmental
FR-A Dry Zone has low indoor air quality (IAQ) emissions and can be considered environmentally safe and user-friendly. Refer to the VOC Emission Attestation under ‘Downloads’ for information on Emissions Data. This information can be used to demonstrate compliance with LEED and BREEAM scheme requirements.
