FR-X
FR-X Wet Zone is suitable for use in external applications such as ventilated cladding (rainscreen) and external masonry walls where there is exposure to moisture and weathering.
Note - it is not suitable for internal use in applications where there is low exposure to moisture e.g. curtain walling, precast concrete façade, composite cladding, and building interior applications. Siderise FR-A Fire Rated Dry Zone Sealant should be used instead.
FR-X Wet Zone is primarily intended for use with recommended Siderise firestop and cavity barrier products installed in accordance with Siderise installation guidance. Its function is to treat small gaps and imperfections where it is otherwise not possible. This includes the following scenarios:
- Sealing imperfections at the slab edge e.g. old or poorly cast concrete floor slabs with an uneven and rough surface that create small gaps. If gaps are greater than 6mm, they should instead be packed with stone wool.
- Sealing around façade brackets or penetrations.
- Sealing joints to fire stops / cavity carriers where it is not possible to apply foil tape.
When considering any of these scenarios, email technical.services@siderise.com for advice relevant to the specific application in question.
Benefits
- ETA-23/0616 and UL-EU-01285-EN third-party certification.
- Fire rated in both horizontal and vertical joints.
- Remains flexible for joint movement.
- Slump resistant and ideal for small joints.
- Excellent adhesion to most common building substrates.
- No known effects on plastic pipes, cables/bunches, sheathing, or metallic components.
- No priming required for most construction substrates.
- Fast cure and tack free within 1 hour.
- Halogen free.
- Resistant to fungi and vermin.
- 12-month shelf life.
Application instructions
Remember – FR-X Wet Zone is only suitable for external use in applications where there is exposure to moisture or weathering. For internal applications where there is low exposure to moisture, use Siderise FR-X Fire Rated Dry Zone Sealant.
- Before applying FR-X Wet Zone, ensure all surfaces are clean, free from dust, dirt and grease, and use mechanical abrasion to clean porous surfaces and remove loose material. Surfaces can be damp, but not running wet.
- Surface primers are not usually required. Where FR-X Wet Zone is to be applied to surfaces that cannot tolerate direct contact, appropriate surface preparation should be made.
- After preparing joints by cleaning as described above, and if necessary, priming, cut the nozzle to the desired angle and gun firmly into the joint to give a good solid fill, filling the gap with FR-X Wet Zone to the required depth.
- Strike off sealant flush with joint sides within 10 minutes of application before surface skinning occurs. FR-X Wet Zone will have low shrinkage during cure. If a flush surface is required, it is recommended to leave the sealant proud.
- Finish the bead with a moist spatula, plastic stick or similar within 30 minutes of application.
- Do not spray FR-X Wet Zone with water or other fluids before skin formation (<30 minutes). Uncured sealant is soluble in water due to the water-based chemistry.
- FR-X Wet Zone can be over-painted with most emulsion or alkyd (gloss) paints.
Siderise FR-X Fire Rated Wet Zone Sealant is a one-part, fire stopping polymer-based gun-grade joint sealant. It can be used in Type X environmental conditions (exposure to weathering), once it has adequately cured. FR-X Wet Zone can prevent the spread of smoke and fire through linear joints for periods up to 4 hours.
FR-X Wet Zone can be used with a suitable filling material i.e. stone wool backing material to secure the correct width to depth ratio, and to reduce sealant shrinkage during curing. Third-party certification includes minimum depth and maximum width of the joints.
Refer to ETA-23/0616 (linear joints and gap seals) and UL-EU-01285-EN (linear joints, gap seals and penetration seals) for fire resistance performance.
FR-X Wet Zone has a D-s2, d0 reaction to fire classification to EN 13501-1 and is detailed in ETA-23/0616.

Health and Safety
Skin contact – gently wash with plenty of soap and water.
Eye contact – rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.
Seek medical advice if discomfort persists.
See Safety Datasheet for further information.
FR-X Wet Zone has low indoor air quality (IAQ) emissions and can be considered environmentally safe and user friendly. Refer to the VOC Emission Attestation under ‘Downloads’ for information on Emissions Data. This information can be used to demonstrate compliance with LEED and BREEAM scheme requirements.
