Purpose of the role

The successful candidate will play a crucial part in ensuring the safety and integrity of building structures through effective management and technical expertise. 

The Technical Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the technical engineering team specialising in passive fire protection, specifically in building envelopes cavity barrier and fire stops systems. This role requires a high level of knowledge and expertise in relevant standards, systems and products. The manager will ensure exceptional service delivery to both internal and external customers, while being hands-on with workload when necessary. The role involves managing workflow, attending peer meetings, developing and implementing lean management processes, collaborating with other departments on technical and commercial matters, and upholding the company’s core values. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of technical engineers and senior engineers. 
  • Oversee the flow of work through the team to ensure efficient and effective operations.
  • Provide guidance and support to team members, ensuring professional development and technical excellence.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge in passive fire protection standard, systems and products.
  • Assist in complex problem-solving and provide technical solutions to challenging issues.
  • Engage in continuous learning to stay updated with industry advancements and regulatory changes.
  • Ensure the delivery of exceptional service to internal and external customers.
  • Address customer enquiries and complaints promptly and professionally.
  • Promote strong relationships with key stakeholders and customers.
  • Collaborate with a team of Advisors to streamline processes and enhance service delivery. 
  • Assist in developing the efficiencies and quality of service.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings to represent the technical services team. 
  • Be hands-on with the workload when necessary, including stepping in to assist with complex projects, technical trouble shooting and high-priority tasks to ensure timely completion and maintain service quality.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate attributes:

  • Proficient in passive fire protection systems, standards, and products. 
  • Strong understanding of building envelope construction and related fire safety measures.
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills both written and verbal with the ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Problem solving skills, addressing unique challenges and finding creative solutions to meet the needs of clients
  • Relationship builder with a demonstrated ability to establish rapport and credibility with specification companies and develop different stakeholders involved in the decision making process
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality service and customer satisfaction
